operates an on ground school that utilizes the curriculum of the area
school district. Educational instruction is provided 6.5 hours per
school day for 217 days. The school is recognized by the Indiana

Since
the majority of the students are categorized special education, teachers
must meet certification standards. Willowglen has a collaborative
relationship with the Gary School District through which teacher credentialing
is processed.
In addition to academic instruction, the Education Department
provides: Education assessment, administration of the Woodcock Johnson
III assessment tool, the Daniel Memorial Living Assessment, the Ansell-Casey
Life Skills Assessment and direct observations, including a behavioral
rating scale, to determine appropriate classroom placement for newly admitted
residents. |
