Private School: Willowglen Academy Learning Center
Who
we are
We
are an Accredited Private School approved by Indiana and Illinois State
Boards of Education. This status affords us the opportunity to serve
a large and diverse group of students who are in need of specialized education
and therapeutic services. This recognition status also allows the program
to award transferable high school credits to home high schools upon discharge.
Students may receive their high school diplomas from their home school
should they remain in the residential component upon completion of the
education requirement. Our school is operated by federal and state
regulatory standards and implemented in accordance with policies and procedures
established by Phoenix Care Systems, Inc., (PCS) our parent company.
Who
we serve
We
serve male and female children and adolescents, ages 8 to 18 years, with
emotional, behavioral, cognitive and/or learning disorders. These,
our primary consumers, are generally wards of a Child Welfare and/or Juvenile
Justice System. We also serve referrals from the local Department
of Education in the State of Indiana as well as neighboring states.
We ensure students are placed on the appropriate academic track with the
necessary support by conducting any and all of the following assessments:
- Woodcock Johnson
III Assessment Tool,
- Daniel Memorial
Living Assessment,
- Ansell-Casey Life
Skills Assessment,
- Direct Observations
which includes a behavioral rating scale
How
we serve
We
serve students in a school that is located on campus grounds in classrooms
that are structured and maintained to enhance learning opportunities.
We utilize the curriculum of the local area school district and provide
educational instruction 6.6 hours per school day for 217 days a year.
Our
goal
Our
goal is to provide each consumer with a premier therapeutic and learning
experience. We are committed to facilitating the involvement of
their family (when possible and/or appropriate), and to working collaboratively
with referral sources toward reunification or preparation for independent
living.
Funding
sources
Funding
opportunities are made possible through the Indiana State Board of Education
(ISBE), Indiana Department of Child Services and Juvenile Justice System
and other referral sources in surrounding areas.
